Day Six

The first day of school. I was really excited to go back to school, but now that I'm back, I'm in denial that vacation is over! The purse of the day features one of my classic noonineon logos, "boltz 'n bones" which was inspired by listening to a lot of Guns 'n Roses. It is hand embroidered, and I didn't bother to cut off any loose threads. I was trying to capture the celebration of being pissed off. Looking back to this purse and the more recent Ca M'enerve purse, there seems to be a theme of pop-angst.

Day Five

New uses for okra- purse hook!

The cake was a success! Totally devoured.

Purse of the day is a cocktail party purse. It's disheveled enough to look like you're not trying too hard, yet the materials are decadent enough to show that you care. The fabric selection is ice skater costume meets highway-crew construction worker.

Day Four

Ca m'enerve!
Tonight is the much awaited Paris reunion party. Earlier this summer I participated in a Paris study abroad program to learn the architecture (and macarons!) of Paris, in addition to various Le Corbusier buildings! So tonight (last free weekend before school starts) we will get together for a premature nostalgia fest. It will feature my carrot cake with marzipan carrots. The Ca m'enerve purse was inspired by the number one song in Paris sung by Helmut Fritz. He sings about all of the status trends that piss him off- ie. He hates girls who have bangs "a la Kate Moss." This song is so true to our time- commercial luxury. In other words we want what everyone can have (materialism) and we love to hate it. My ca m'enerve purse says "bee frenchy/frenchy bee" on one side and "ca m'enerve" on the other. It also features a cell phone pocket garnished with a half-leaf of artificial lettuce (an homage to the Roman Arenes de Lutece in the Paris 5ieme Arrondissment- which was cut in half to accomodate the Parisian urban fabric). I also included a close up of my new inspirational material- candy-apple green metalic leather- can't wait!

Day Three

Marzipan Carrot Alert!!! Marzipan Carrot Alert!!! Marzipan Carrot Alert!!
I made these carrots in the middle of the night yesterday- most fun ever! A lasagna cutter was used to make the carrot tops. Dental floss was used to make the indentations on the carrots. Each carrot is about 1.5".

In keeping with the them of sweets, the purse of the day is my classic "Krispy Kremer." It is one of the first bags I made (probably circa 2003)- hand embroidered on rustic cotton duck canvas. This is the ultimate homage to a heavenly place. I remember I made this bag to go to Krispy Kreme for the first time and I was not dissapointed, I even got a free hat! (which embarassingly, I wore in public).

Day Two

Carrot Cake!!!
I have to make a carrot cake for a party on Saturday and have been planning the marzipan carrots in my dreams. I bought all the ingredients to make them but then I accidentally sewed a purse instead. The purse was supposed to match the cake but now I see that it is the other way around. When I make the cake, I'll post pictures of it. This purse was made with a plastic coated cottony white fabric, knitted metallic yarn, and a crocheted carrot! I deconstructed it because the great thing about cake is that it gets eaten and turns into a mess. The only way to have fun is to have your cake and eat it too.
Perfect cake=A cake no one wants to eat
Deconstructed cake=Tasty

Day One

I've been wanting to start this blog for a while. Yesterday, while getting dressed to go out, I couldn't find a purse to wear. Among hundreds of purses, I felt I had no purses. Part of the reason for this is that I really don't remember what I have so I end up wearing the newest purses and forgetting the older ones. Finally inspired after seeing the movie Julie & Julia, I took the initiative.

My format will consist of a new purse each day- some current- some older. All purses were made by and for me. All purses are different. The goal is to document the purses and to share them with you.

...And yes I did make a new purse today.
